This is Not Just a House | Ressò Project

Redevelopment means development, both social and energetic. The students of the University of Catalonia know this well, and took part in project Ressò, which won the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 architecture award in Paris.

Ressò is a 10 by 10 meter cube with a height of 7 meters that offers an excellent solution to the problems posed by the promoters of the French initiative. A metal structure with walls in wood that are composed differently based on their exposition, with the ones on the roof and towards the North being more insulated.

The interior has a mezzanine, the roof can be partially opened and adjusted according to weather conditions and ventilation needs. It’s energetically autonomous, destined for community activities, adaptable to any context and conceived so as to be enjoyed and managed by citizens based on their preferences.

Ressò can be summarized in these terms: sharing, optimizing and saving. But the principles of this project go beyond the idea of sustainable architecture. The students are also working on an urban model, which considers the interaction between buildings and sustainable growth. Somewhat like their slogan recites: “Ceci n’est pas, seulement, une maison” (This is not just a house).
