London-based architectural studio, Michaelis Boyd has completed the gorgeous design for Duddell’s London, the new hot restaurant and arts space concept in the heart of London Bridge.
The recently opened Duddell’s London is the first restaurant of the celebrated Duddell’s brand to open outside of Hong Kong and is set in the historic St. Thomas Church in the heart of London Bridge, just minutes from Borough Market and The Shard. Duddell’s London specialises in authentic Cantonese cuisine and hand-crafted dim-sum.
Designed by Michaelis Boyd, the elegant 18th century proportions speak for themselves. With subtle modern touches, open bar/ kitchen to brass shelves and terrazzo worktops, traditional and modern meet to create one incredible dining experience. The ground floor looks up at a semi-private mezzanine floor that overlooks the rest of the restaurant along with enormous golden chandeliers that helps to bridge the gap to the huge space above.
The head chef is Daren Liew, previously the executive chef with the Hakkasan group, and has over 20 years of experience in Chinese cuisine. The restaurant itself provides a cultural and social destination that is designed to be a place in which people can meet, eat and drink while being surrounded by inspiring museum quality year round exhibitions.
Duddell’s is prized not only for it’s dim-sum but the Asian inspired cocktails from the standalone bar which are a dynamic list of old and new world wines as well as classic and innovative cocktails. When it comes to food, the Peking duck is a real showstopper. At 48 hours in the making, the duck is air dried to separate the skin from flesh rendering it ultra-crispy, it is then served with eight different condiments and is cut for you at the table.
Duddell’s London has been created to inspire food and art lovers alike and combining traditional Chinese and western ingredients to make both presences felt on the menu has set a high benchmark for a fantastic dining experience you simply must try.
