Based in Helsinki, Finland, Satu Maaranen is a young fashion designer who loves creating avant-garde garments, playing with contaminations, imitating landscapes, striving for innovation. Her career begins in 2012, when she graduates from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture: her thesis collection is proof enough of the potential of her style and ideas, so much so it earns her first place at the prestigious Hyères Fashion Festival 2013, with unanimous decision.
Her work is admired, and quickly finds its way on the most important fashion magazines: Vogue Paris, Vogue Italia, The Business of Fashion,
Interview Magazine, L’Officiel, Marie Claire and many others. Among her projects, this year Satu collaborated with French brand Petit Bateau, reinventing the classic striped pattern ‘à la marinière’ in an ironic and inspired capsule collection.
She enjoys experimenting, as revealed in the increasing number of interviews that are asked of her. In her work Satu blends the design typical of her country with the use of innovative materials, shapes and patterns. “I want to instigate a new reflection on haute couture by leading it into another poetic dimension”, she states.
