Piet began his career at Modernlink, one of Manhattan’s premier purveyors of mid-century modern masterpieces. It was there, designing the award-winning Onelink collection, that he developed his understanding of proportion, and the ideals of modern design.
Piet founded Singular Products in 2004. The company began with the wild success of the Hand Grenade Oil Lamps, expanding over the years to include a variety of objects as well as a burgeoning furniture collection.
His motivation lies in finding the inevitability of each design, that is, to unearth beauty and purity in the solution of a problem in a way that becomes immediately relatable to anybody. He finds inspiration in all of humanity’s creative endeavors, and especially enjoys the works of early innovators. His work often encapsulates a moment or aesthetic idea from the past but presents it in a modern context.
Piet’s work has received much critical acclaim, and has found its way into the homes of fashion, photo, and film icons, as well as legendary architecture and design curators.
Piet received his BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2001. He currently lives and works in New York City, where he was born and raised by Dutch parents. His signature red hair and freckles can often be spotted around town, peering into everything, especially construction sites.
Piet’s production company Singular Products LLC produces a growing collection of products and furniture that speak to the core of modernism in unique and playful ways. Each product has its own distinct character and is designed to exist in a gracefully unobtrusive way, adding a little warmth, beauty, and love to your home.
