Hide and Seek: Divcibare Mountain Home in Serbia

For this hillside home built in Serbia, the architects at EXE Studio used a natural color palette and locally-sourced materials to blend the house’s angular form into the rolling hills of Mount Maljen. When viewed externally, the building is split into a broad volume finished with white ceramic tiles and a slimmer volume wrapped in blackened wood paneling. A blocky staircase made from gray stone slabs borders the latter half, tracing the slope and emphasizing the relationship between the house and the hill. The steep pitch of the tiled roofing contains the interior space and offers residents ample privacy; a large portrait window offers a picturesque view down the rolling hills and mountain ranges.
